New resource: Very Short Introductions

We now have access to more than 500 e-books from Oxford University Press. The Very Short Introductions collection contains a diverse range of subject areas and are designed to be the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Each text is written by experts in the field to combine facts, analysis and new ideas to make the topics accessible.

The collection is indexed in Discover, and available via Databases A-Z. Access is available both on and off-campus.

Resource Trial: Socialism on Film: The Cold War and International Propaganda

We are currently trialling Socialism on Film: The Cold War and International Propaganda which is available on-campus until 12th April 2017

This is a collection of films from the communist world reveals war, history, current affairs, culture and society as seen through the socialist lens. It spans most of the twentieth century and covers countries such as the USSR, Vietnam, China, Korea, much of Eastern Europe, the GDR, Britain and Cuba.

Please note that for the duration of the trial it is not possible to download any content.

Church Missionary Society Periodicals Trial

We are currently trialling Church Missionary Society Periodicals

This resource encompasses publications from the CMS, the Church of England Zenana Missionary Society and the latterly integrated South American Missionary Society. Documenting missionary work from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century, the periodicals include news, journals and reports offering a unique perspective on global history and cultural encounters.

Access is available until 1st March 2017, and is available on-campus only for the duration of the trial.

Now resolved – Problems accessing Discover, and Databases A-Z

All authentication issues have now been resolved.



We appear to be having problems logging in to Discover this morning. Please use the alternative Discover Search link whilst we are having problems with the web pages. This will work on-campus. For off-campus access, login into Off-Campus Applications and use the browser provided in there.

noun_375655_ccFollowing consultation last year we are about to launch a new Library Services website (currently in beta) and we need your help to fine tune the design. The new site is due to replace our current pages on January 23rd.

We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to participate in a user testing session on Tuesday 17th January (morning) at Kingsway House. The session will last for approx. 30 mins. The first 5 volunteers who come forward to take part will receive a £20 Amazon voucher.

One of our newspaper databases has changed its name. LibraryPressDisplay has now become PressReader.

A new link has been created in our Databases A-Z page. For the time being both names will appear, before we retire the LibraryPressDisplay link in the New Year.

SPIE Digital Library – a fantastic new addition to the Electronic Library at LJMU

Our new resource SPIE Digital Library is now available via the Databases A-Z link on the Electronic Library providing access to key journals such as:

  • Optical Engineering
  • Journal of Applied Remote Sensing
  • Journal of Astronomical Telescopes, Instruments and Systems

This new collection also includes conference proceedings from around the world on a range of topics including high power lasers and their applications, sensors and biophotonics. The latest research found in the conference proceedings offers a snapshot of global activity in subjects of increasing importance to the University. Why not log on and explore the content available!
