We are delighted to be part of this year’s Writing on the Wall festival which runs throughout May in Liverpool, bringing together an eclectic mix of writers, artists and social commentators. The themes for WoWFest 2016 include exploring the future, past and present through science fiction, super heroes, graphic novels, comics and…a Time Machine!
Our event on Saturday 7th May at the Black-E, 10am – 4pm, will use the Femorabilia comics collection held here to explore the history of girls’ comic titles such as Misty, Tammy, Jackie and Jinty. Drop in any time during the day to look at these classic comics, find out the value of any titles you have, or have a go at drawing and colouring your own comic strips. We also have a great line-up of speakers:
11am: Girls’ Comics and their Readers – Dr. Mel Gibson, University of Northumbria
12noon: Feminism and zines – changing the world with comic strips: Rachael House, artist
1.30pm: Writing for Young People: Cathy Cassidy, author and former fiction editor of Jackie
3pm: Panel discussion session with all three speakers
Full details of this and all the other events in WoWFest16 are available on the Festival Website.
