Photo Friday: Happy Christmas punk style

20131213 [Sniffin Glue- with block]With Christmas fast approaching, this week we feature a punk approach to Christmas, with a seasonal edition of ‘Sniffin’ Glue’ (the first UK punk fanzine) from December 1976.

This mini issue of the fanzine features a run down of the most important artists in 1976, including The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned, Buzzcocks, Generation X, Subway Sect, Eddie and the Hot Rods and Eater.  Since this was a short issue, to save on printing costs no photos were used, instead a ‘punk called Zizz’ produced the illustrations.

Sniffin’ Glue was founded by Mark Perry, assisted by Danny Baker and Steve Micalef, and LJMU Special Collections & Archives holds a complete run of the fanzine in the England’s Dreaming: Jon Savage Archive, available to view on request from the LJMU Archivist.

This issue and several others are currently on loan to an exhibition called ‘Europunk’ at the Cité de la Musique museum in Paris.  The exhibition runs until 19th January 2014.
